Daydreaming In Class

June 2023

I created the melody for this piece as part of a class project in 2018. Recently, I used this same tune for a college assignment where we had to use midi and quantization to create a short song. I wasn’t very fond of my college class, so I lovingly decided to name the piece Daydreaming In Class. While I have some ideas to expand it, this is the current version. I made this in Studio One with stock instruments.

BRIGHT LIGHTS VOID

February 2024

I tried going for a sort of different sound so this song is a bit of an experiment. Have you ever been in a crowded room completely alone? This song was sort of inspired by that feeling. Despite all the lights and laughter and people bustling here and there, sometimes there is still a sense of emptiness. With no better ideas in mind, I decided to title this piece BRIGHT LIGHTS VOID as I felt those were the three things most prominent in an isolated crowd or a starless night drive. This was an experiment mixing-wise as well as I have never mixed in Ableton before. I used Ableton along with plugins from Native Instruments and Izotope.

My Score
Original Score

I went onto the Internet Archive and found this French cartoon from 1908. This is my first project working with visuals and I made a point to not listen to the original track until I created a basic melody and rhythm. I wanted to craft a score that I felt matched the tone and pace of the animation as well as pay homage to the culture and period it was originally made in. I drew inspiration from impressionism and ragtime pieces, particularly a handful of songs by Claude Debussy, which, to my surprise, ended up quite different from the original score. This project was made entirely made in Ableton using a mix of Native Instrument and Spitfire plugins as well as recordings of me playing the guitar.
